If you live in an apartment, you probably believe there is no way that you will ever be able to grow a garden of your own. Thinking this way has caused a lot of people to leave their apartments and relocate into a dwelling that has space outdoors for a garden. For others it is merely a small disappointment and they try to make do with a few houseplants.
Don’t despair! You can have a garden in your apartment, no matter how small it is. This report will show you some tips on how you can accomplish this.
Decide what you want to accomplish and then objectively evaluate the spaces you have available and see if they meet your needs. You could decide, for instance, to turn your dining room table into a garden area like a lot of people do. The question, however, is will you miss having access to your dining room table? It’s necessary to really think this through before you decide. It’s really possible to have a nice garden in a small area, but don’t overestimate how many plants that area can handle.
Buy some good quality grow lights for your plants. Did you grow up thinking only hippies used grow lights? It only makes sense to use grow lights if you have plants that are in an area that doesn’t get sufficient sunshine.
If you have grow lights, there are more places you can put your plants because you can use areas that are shady or that have little sunshine. Before you go out and buy expensive new grow lights, see if you can locate some used one at your local flea market or second-hand shop.
A wonderful alternative, if you simply cannot find any extra space in your home for containers, is to see if there are any community gardens in your area that you can participate in. Many of these operate on a time share or monthly fee. Just consider the fact that you can easily have a wonderful outdoors garden – just like you dreamed about – without crowding out your living quarters with plants and all the stuff you need to take care of them. This might not sound so bad now, of course, but when you find that you have to walk sideways to accommodate all of your containers, taking on a plot in a community garden will probably seem like a really great idea.
Just because you live in an apartment does not mean that you have to give up on the idea of having a garden of your very own. Just exercise your imagination a little and you will think of numerous ways you, too, can have a garden even if you don’t have a balcony or patio. All that is required is your imagination, research into gardening indoors, and the time to implement your creative ideas and you, too, will have a bountiful garden, even if your space and finances are limited.
